WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

Clarity & Calm: Understand what’s really driving conflict and learn how to stay grounded, even when emotions feel overwhelming.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Practical Tools: Build awareness and practical strategies to reduce escalation, avoid costly mistakes, and navigate conflict more consciously.

Thriving Future: Build a foundations for a more stable path forward that supports healthier dynamics and long-term emotional and financial wellbeing.

This is a 5-week live online group program designed to help you understand and interrupt patterns of conflict as you move through separation.

You’ll be guided through weekly live sessions where we explore:

  • why separation creates so much internal chaos

  • what drives post-separation conflict

  • the often overlooked and less understood impact of your nervous system (fight, flight, fawn, freeze)

  • the role of early childhood patterning in post-separation conflict

  • how to make more grounded, conscious decisions

  • how to navigate more complex dynamics, including neurodivergence, mental health challenges, or personality traits

Alongside this, you’ll be supported with simple, practical tools you can apply immediately to improve how you navigate conflict, communication, and relational breakdowns, including: perspective shifts, reflection prompts, regulation practices and coaching guides.

This foundational program is designed to support the development of more conscious and collaborative communication — by first building the awareness and internal stability needed to:

  • reduce unnecessary escalation

  • respond rather than react

  • navigate separation, communication breakdowns, and conflict more consciously and confidently

Whilst this program has broader relevance (as conflict is an inevitable part of life), it is most valuable in the early to mid stages of separation — where patterns are forming and key decisions are being made.

Important Note

This program is designed for individuals and couples with a functional level of physical and mental wellbeing. It does not replace legal advice, therapy, or professional mental health care.

If you are experiencing active violence, coercion, or significant mental health challenges, please seek appropriate professional support before engaging in this program (e.g. 000, 1800RESPECT, Lifeline 13 11 14).

  • "Despite being a counsellor myself, I found myself struggling navigating a high-conflict Family Court process. I found some much comfort and support in what Kara offers. Her combined legal background and trauma-informed approach provided a level of understanding and reassurance that I had not experienced elsewhere. Before undertaking the program, I approached matters from a highly defensive and combative mindset. Through engaging with the conscious and attachment-aware frameworks Kara teaches, I was able to regulate my emotional responses, shift my perspective, and engage more constructively in co-parenting dynamics. Situations that previously triggered strong reactions no longer hold the same power. Even in challenging circumstances, I am now able to respond with greater authenticity, emotional steadiness, and intention, which has contributed to reduced conflict and improved communication. Kara taught me that meaningful change often begins with one regulated and grounded participant. That insight alone has been transformative.."

    — Steph, Counsellor

  • “I recently discovered Kara’s Breaking the Cycles of Conflict program. I wish I had the benefit of this course 6 years ago when I first separated from my son’s mother. I think it would have a big difference and even now I can see the things we are both doing wrong and that there are things I need to let go off. I am now aware that I am still in protect mode and guarded and this is impacting our parenting relationship and my capacity to form new long-term romantic partners. I can now move forward with fresh perspective. Fighting and destroying each other's piece of mind and financial wellbeing hurts all involved, including any children, and is not going to change the outcome. It’s not about winning, but moving forward and learning.”

  • "I recently completed Breaking the Cycles of Conflict, and it was truly transformative. Kara's approach blends deep psychological insights with practical tools, making it not just informative but life-changing. The way she explained complex concepts like attachment styles and emotional regulation made them easy to understand and apply in real life. Her unique perspective, combining her background in psychology and family law, gave the course incredible depth and relevance. I walked away with a renewed sense of clarity and empowerment, feeling better equipped to navigate relationships moving forward. Thank you, Kara, for such a powerful and enlightening experience!"

    — Mandy Newman, Collaborative Financial Planner

  • "Avoiding Post-Separation Conflict demonstrates that separation does not have to unfold in the destructive ways we so often see. The integration of Conscious & Collaborative Uncoupling with attachment-informed and trauma-aware practice creates a framework that is both grounded in evidence and highly practical. The insights and skills taught in this program have the potential to significantly reduce trauma for individuals, children and extended families during separation. Kara has a rare ability to translate complex relational dynamics into clear, compassionate and applicable guidance. I highly recommend this training to professionals supporting families through separation."

    — Kerry Gardans, Teacher

  • “I recently had the opportunity participate in Kara's Breaking the Cycles of Conflict course. My own separation hasn't exactly been smooth and I have been navigating the Court system with respect parenting matters for over 2 years. Looking back, if I had known about this course Kara provides, on the emotional rollercoaster of breakups and its impact - not just on us, but especially on the kids - I truly believe things could be different today."

Kara Ockendon (LLB, BAPsychsc)

Collaborative Family Law Facilitator | Conscious Uncoupling™ Practitioner | Relationship Breakdown & Divorce Coach

Hi, I’m Kara, the founder of Thriving Divorce & Separation.

I’m a former family lawyer with over 15 years’ legal experience, now working Collaborative Family Law Facilitator and Separation Coach. I combine legal insight with a trauma-informed, human approach to support people navigating one of the most challenging times in their lives.

Over the years, I’ve supported hundreds of individuals and families through separation and conflict. What I came to see, both professionally and personally, is that while legal processes can resolve things on paper, they often don’t address what’s really driving the conflict beneath the surface.

That’s where my work is different.

I now support individuals and families to navigate separation more consciously, helping you understand what’s happening emotionally, stay more grounded, and make clearer, more considered decisions as you move forward.

My approach draws on attachment theory, nervous system awareness, and practical real-world experience, but it’s always grounded in what is actually useful and applicable in your day-to-day life.

This work is also deeply personal to me.

I grew up in the context of a high-conflict divorce, have navigated my own separation, and now co-parent a neurodivergent child. I understand first-hand how complex, emotional, and overwhelming this process can feel.

And I also know that it can be done differently.

At the heart of my work is the belief that separation does not have to mean destruction. With the right support, awareness, and approach, families can move through this experience in a way that reduces harm and creates a more stable and supportive future.
